The Story of Griff’s On Campus

While in college, owner Kyle Tipton planned to adopt a female miniature schnauzer. However, when he arrived, a lively male schnauzer immediately stole his heart. That schnauzer became known as Griffey.

Kyle and his wife, Cindy, always dreamed of opening a hoagie shop. However, as members of the Air National Guard, they wanted to wait for the right time and place. After moving to Tyndall AFB, Florida, Cindy began making her famous Philadelphia hoagies for family and friends, who raved about their authentic taste.

As they brainstormed names for their food truck, tragedy struck—Griffey became very sick and passed away. Heartbroken, the family wanted to honor him in a special way. One of their four children sketched a cartoon version of Mr. Griff, and when the others saw it, they excitedly shouted, “Mr. Griff! That’s the name of our food truck!”

And so, as a family, they decided that Mr. Griff would become their mascot, symbolizing love, memories, and the beginning of this exciting new chapter—Griff’s On Campus.
